Why Go Green?

Wednesday 5 March 2014

By Hedrick Lepsch

There are few things more satisfying than bidding the cold winds and freezing winter temperatures a temporary farewell and entering your warm and cozy house. Thanks to the invention of central heating, many of us find winters to be not nearly as bad as they otherwise would.

This is one of the reasons why this movement is unique. It can be designed based on the needs or wants of the individual. And they can feel good about the fact that they are helping the environment in the process.

Lower your Thermostat This can often be a topic of intense debate in any house or apartment, but the fact is that lowering your thermostat is the easiest and most direct way to cut down on the cost of heating your home. It's estimated that for every degree that you lower your thermostat, you save around 3% on your next heating bill. However, make sure that you never turn off your thermostat while you are away. Doing so can sometimes cause pipes in the house to freeze and rupture, causing thousands of dollars in damages.

* Reuse items: Find items that are worn out or just need a makeover. This may include an old backpack, or a piece of furniture for the dorm room. Also try to find old cardboard boxes and reuse them to pack things that you are taking. This saves time and money as well. * Traveling green: Many schools and universities offer public transportation which eliminates the need to drive on campus for courses. Most universities also have a lack of parking so just taking the bus saves time, money, and is good for the environment.

Here are a few examples of ways the everyday person could reuse basic items:

Keep track of which windows the sun hits throughout the day and make sure the blinds stay open in order to let the sunlight through. Water Heater Your water heater is also a big culprit regarding why your heating bill can be so high. The first thing you should do is check the settings and lower it to around 120 degrees. Usually this is still high enough so that you won't notice a difference, but your water heater won't have to work as hard.

Solar Power If you want to make changes that will help cut your heating bill by a large percentage, consider supplementing your system with solar panels. Efficient solar materials, like the Helios 310 watt panels, can help cut your power costs that are raised by having to carry warm air throughout the house. Solar technology can be an effective and energy-conscious way to save on your next heating bill.

* Crate shelves: You can get old would or plastic crates from a grocery store and turn them sideways with the open part facing out. Then stack and secure the crates and you can use them just like a normal bookshelf. You can stack them in different ways and have many or just a few crates to make a unit. * Solar panels: This may not be something reused but it definitely a great way to go green! Solar panels are great for the environment and there are many different ways that you can use them whether it is on your roof with a Phonosolar 300 watt panel or on your flashlight, you should definitely check out all the hoopla with solar panels.

Getting Your Power From The Sun: A Guide

Saturday 1 March 2014

By Almer Veloso

Solar energy is gradually impacting our lives. Both homeowners and business owners are starting to realize the positive effects of using solar energy. If you have yet to make these realizations, continue reading. This article should give you updated information on the subject.

Photo-voltaic panels have two main types. Poly-crystalline panels tend to be cheaper but they are not as efficient than mono-crystalline solar panels. When choosing solar energy supplies for your home, look for the most energy-efficient materials available.

You can start out small by using small-scale solar power applications. This can be done in two ways. The first is to find window-mounted panels for powering electronics. You might also find standalone solar powered equipment such as lanterns, camp stoves and more. Cutting a few dollars here and there can really add up.

Purchasing solar energy systems can save money, but keep in mind that they are a long-term investment. This can help you go green and reduce your energy bill. Therefore, you should only make an investment in solar panels when you are financially stable and intend on settling down.

You need to think about whether or not solar energy is a good decision for your house. Several important factors must be considered. If your property is off the main grid, it's possible that solar energy represents an excellent opportunity. It is also a good choice if you are environmentally conscious.

When buying solar panels, stay away from salesmen who try to pressure you into sales. Take all the time you need to ask questions, do some research and compare different options before investing in a solar energy system. Buying immediately from any high pressure salesperson may result in making the wrong decision and wasting your money.

Be certain to install your solar panels so that they are able to gain maximum sun exposure all year long. Take into account the seasons of the year and adjust accordingly.

If you're going to get a house built it's now a good time for you to think about using solar energy. This is the most green power solution available. You should at least think about adding solar panels to your home.

Installing pathway lighting is an affordable way to take advantage of solar energy. Exterior lights can be powered at night by the power of the sun which is gathered during the day. Installation is simple, and the results are charming.

Solar panels are most often installed in areas that give them the most sunlight exposure, however things can change over time. Keep an eye on trees to make sure that they don't grow and block your panels over time.

In the world of solar panels, bigger is not always better. There are many considerations that go along with the effectiveness of solar panels, such as materials, construction and warranties. You should carefully go over everything before making a decision.

When making the decision to use solar panels, you are going to need to be aware of the weather at all times. Good panels can provide enough power if they can absorb about five hours or more of sunlight each day. For example, solar energy may not be your best bet if you live an area where most days are snowy, mostly cloudy or foggy.

Regardless of the system you choose, the panels should face the sun. The sun is what gives you the energy and it is important that the panels have direct access and are located in the spot that will allow them to get as much solar energy as possible.

Most people don't know how solar energy actually works. Now that you've read this article, you are likely much more informed on solar energy and its usages. You probably know some of the benefits that solar energy can provide. Keep all of this in mind when making the decision about solar energy.
